Oyster Pearl Necklace
This necklace is inspired by stories about exquisite luminous Pearls found by Pearl traders who went searching for rare and beautiful Pearls around the world.
The making of this necklace echos old techniques of creating images and stories by scrimshaw (the inscribing of objects such as shells with drawings) as done by sailors. These etched objects were then often given as gifts or kept as mementos.
The keepsake style of this necklace represents the preciousness of being connected to others and the environment, and the appreciation of a beautiful object, the Pearl.
The necklace can be worn open to reveal the Pearl or worn closed to show the world map.
Traditional jewellery making techniques and high quality materials are used in this hand formed necklace.
